5 types of blogs you should know about |
Want to blog but don't know what type of blog to create? You are not alone. Lots of people feel that way. The simplest solution is to know the 5 types of blogs that exist in cyberspace today.
1. Personal blog
Personal blogs are blogs that are usually only created to fill free time or to share everyday things. This type of blog is basically an online public record, so the topic can be anything. Personal blogs shouldn't make money either. Even so, the owner of this type of blog will still enjoy blogging.
2. Authority blogs
Authority blogs are blogs created by reputable bloggers. The aim of the blog is to become an expert on the topics covered.
To attract visitors, authority blogs do not focus on search engine visitors, but also attract visitors from social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest). Even when there are no search engines, authenticity blogs still get traffic from these social media.
When it comes to content, authority blogs generally don't deal with keywords. Unsurprisingly, authority blogs publish hundreds to thousands of quality articles because the topics they cover are not narrow (e.g. health, home, self-development, technology, etc.).
Some examples of authority blogs are:
Problogger (an authority blog about the world of blogging)
TechCrunch (the authority blog about the world of technology)
3. Niche blogs
Unlike authority blogs, niche blogs focus on a specific keyword that is used to try to get page 1 of the search engines. This type of blogging has a pattern: keyword research, content creation, and search engine optimization.
In terms of visitors, niche blogs depend on visitors to search engines (mostly Google), so niche blog owners usually look for backlinks from various sources so that their blogs search Page 1 of Google for the keywords they are targeting.
Since it relies only on visitors from Google, the main disadvantage of a niche blog is that it will lose visitors in no time when Google updates its search algorithm. You may have read the complaints from niche blog owners on internet marketing forums that their blog was removed from page 1 by Google due to penalties for Google Panda, Google Penguin, or Google Manual.

Right now there is a lot of coachman debates about how to make better money between authority blogs and niche blogs. Authority fan blogs claim that authority blogs are the best money maker. Likewise with the claims of "lovers" of niche blogs. However, in my view, both of them can make good money as long as the content and backlinks are of high quality.
4. Company blog
In the past few years, many companies have added a blog to their website. Companies use their blogs to inform about important announcements, introduce new products and/or services, and to communicate with customers. Hence, this type of blog is generally not monetized with third-party advertising.
5. Blog spam
Spam blogs are blogs that are created with no regard for quality. Blogs of this type are generally made up of automatically generated content blogs (AGC) that can easily be created in bulk. Owners just need to use software (usually specific code or plugins) to pull content from other people's blogs or websites and their blog will be populated with content easily.
Although spam blogs are easy to create, they often receive complaints from blog owners whose content has been taken over due to copyright infringement. Additionally, this type of blog is an easy target for Google to clean up search results from unqualified content.
Knowing the five types of blogs mentioned above will give you an idea of what type of blog you want to create.
